Affordable Ways to Boost Curb Appeal

Primping and pruning the exterior of your home is a vital step when preparing to sell. Most homeowners realize the importance of this, but it can be hard to know where to start! Today we are going to discuss some affordable ways to spruce up your house’s exterior.

The first thing that prospective buyers will notice from the street is your yard. Some simple ways to elevate the look of your yard in the warmer months are to mow and edge your lawn. Clean edges can make your yard look professionally landscaped without requiring you to hire professional landscapers. You could also consider planting flowers in the yard directly or in flower pots to add colour. In the colder months, make sure your driveway and the path leading up to your front door are well cleared to the edges of your lawn and that there are no large icicles that could be considered hazardous. Remember to move your recycling, garbage, and compost bins out of sight!

If it’s not around Christmas time and you have Christms lights up on your house, it could be beneficial to consider removing them. While Christmas lights are cheerful and bright at night, most buyers won’t be viewing the house after the sun sets. Christmas lights can make a house look cheaper and less put together for photos and showings. It will give the buyers the perspective that the home may not be well maintained if they are left up long past Christmas.

As the buyers approach the home for their showing, they will start to notice the smaller details on the exterior of the house. Is there paint chipping? Are any stone features well maintained? Are the windows clean? It is worth your time to address these small details when preparing to sell. Walk up to your home as a prospective buyer might, taking in the house and noticing the little things for later touching up. Cleaning the exteriors of the windows may require you to hire professionals, however the cost is worth it, squeaky clean windows make a home look crisp and fresh for showings and photos.

Interior staging makes a house feel like a home, but exterior preparation is what makes a great first impression on buyers when they initially view the house.
